How children succeed 4

Affluence...
I had wished my parents had been very rich when I was young. But I learned from this book that wealthy parents can help kids not failing, but cannot make them succeed.
An interesting fact is that teenagers from wealthy suburban used alcohol, cigarettes, marijuana, and harder illegal drugs much more than low-income teens. 35%of suburban girls had tried those substance, compared with 15% of inner city girls.
Why wealthy kids fall into drugs?
Wealthy parents are more likely busy for their career, and so more emotionally distant from their child, but at the same time, insist on high levels of achievement from kids. Excessive achievement pressures and isolation from parents make them depressed.

  3. I agree with the point of the author. Prosperous circumstance can satisfy children's physical desire, but it can't be long-lasting psychological satisfaction. We know that children need parents' affection. However, if children feel mental distance from their parents because their parents are busy, and the parents try to fill the psychological void with their money, it can bring bigger problems. I'm interested in developmental psychology, so this part is very impressive.

Or something like that, I don't even remember the proverb, but we studied it today :D!

  5. Wooow!!

It is really interesting facts. I may refers that to the time those parents spend with their child. this is very important when the parents spend more time with them to help them in their life. so if the rich they will not find enough time to spend with them. I kind of agree with it
